Stipple engraving on paper, 34cm x 45cm (47cm x 58cm including frame). *An episode in Shakespeare's King Henry VI Pt 2, act 4, scene 2. Cade's rebellion, 1450: Dick the butcher and Smith the weaver seize Emmanuel ("the clerk of Chatham") and threaten to hang him with his pen and inkhorn. Stipple engraving by J. Coles after H.W. Bunbury, 1795. Other copies of this engraving also held by the British Museum and the Welcome Trust.
