Arne Jacobsen 1902-1971. Lounge chair, 'The Egg', Model 3316, swivel four-star base in solid profiled aluminium, large leg caps. Designed in 1958. Produced by Fritz Hansen, early model. Recently professionally reupholstered in cognac-coloured Vacona pure aniline leather. H. 106/39 cm. Literature: Carsten Thau and Kjeld Vindum. 'Arne Jacobsen', 1998, discussed on pp. 144 and 432; reproduced on pp. 433, 438-439, 467, 471-472. Aniline leather is made of high-quality raw leather. As a rule, the leather has a completely natural stripped surface, where all natural marks are visible. This helps to emphasize the unique character of the leather. The leather is full-grain, which means that the natural surface structure is preserved. Aniline leather changes over time through use and the effects of light, and it quickly develops a naturally beautiful patina.
