Featuring a ‘Winter landscape at sunrise’. Height 25cm x Diameter 17cm. Shumei Fujii (b. 1936) is an acclaimed Arita pottery artist famous for his "leaf technique." Instead of just painting, he presses real leaves (like magnolia) onto unglazed clay to transfer their natural vein patterns. These patterns create the appearance of complex tree branches or misty mountain ranges. By using different leaves, he captures the specific mood of the seasons in the Arita landscape. Fujii began his career at age 15 and has been featured in the prestigious Nitten exhibition 15 times. This specific piece is signed by the artist on the base.
