Watercolour on artist's board. 28cm x 20.4cm. Title and date in the artist's hand 'H.M.S. 'FIJI', Crete, 22/5/41' lower left and signed E.Tufnell lower right. Ref: Commander Eric Tufnell had a distinguished career in the Royal Navy, serving from before World War I through the interwar period. His deep, first-hand understanding of naval architecture, rigging, and seafaring conditions earned him a reputation for superb technical accuracy. Tufnell was highly prolific, frequently commissioned by naval officers and crew families to commemorate notable vessels and actions. His works were historically handled by premier London dealers, most notably The Parker Gallery.
