Børge Westergaard Mogensen (13 April 1914 in Aalborg — 5 October 1972 in Gentofte) was a prominent Danish furniture architect. He was a central figure among a generation of furniture designers who made the concept of “Danish modern” known internationally. Together with colleagues such as Arne Jacobsen and Hans Wegner, Mogensen helped to create respect for Danish furniture design worldwide through his simple and functional design works that for more than half a century have continued to be in demand globally. Mogensen started his career as a cabinetmaker and then continued his education in furniture design and architecture. His education and early experiences under Kaare Klint laid the foundation for his deep commitment to both classical and functional aspects of furniture design. After being in charge of FDB's furniture design studio, Mogensen established his own design studio, creating a wide range of furniture for both public spaces and homes. He was known for mixing different materials and techniques, and his work was characterized by visual clarity and functionality. Børge Mogensen became known as the “people's designer” due to his commitment to creating quality furniture that was accessible to a wide audience. By using local materials and focusing on usability, he created furniture that fit into the daily lives of many people. His contributions to Danish modernism and furniture design continue to be a significant part of design history and his influence can still be seen in today's design world. “Öresund” is a series of furniture designed by Børge Mogensen during the 1950s for the Danish furniture company Fredericia. The series includes sofas, armchairs and tables in a simple and minimalist style. The furniture is characterized by clean lines, balanced proportions and a focus on functionality and comfort.
