Blyerts och akvarell på papper, 21 x 26 cm, inklusive ram 39 x 43 cm. Signerad G.W (med en palm) och daterad Neapel den 13 september 1841. Palm was in Italy between 1841-1851 where he resided in Rome. Shortly after his arrival in Rome on 7th August 1841, he took off on a two months long journey to Naples. He stayed in Naples for a week and then went to Capri where he remained for a fortnight. From Capri he took a boat to Sorrento and Castellammare. By early September he was back in Naples where he remained until the middle of the month. After a week in Pompeii he returned to Rome. A grey wash drawing by Palm in Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, ”Harbour in Naples”, 22.5 x 57 cm. (NMH 1295/1924), is dated on the same day as the present work. Another work by Palm in Nationalmuseum, a watercolor, 14 x 23 cm. drawn in Capri 21 August, also depicts fishing boats on the shore (NM 865/1924) (G. Lindgren, Landskapsmålaren G. W. Palm 1810-1890, 1934, p. 83).
