The rectangular box with indented corners, decorated overall in iroe-hiramaki-e and takamaki-e on a nashiji ground depicting a flourishing plum tree and scattered blossoms, fitted inner tray decorated with the same design. Period: Meiji (1868-1912). Measurements c. 11.5 x 19 x 11.5 cm. Provenance From the collection of publicist, expert on textiles and Licentiate of Philosophy, Gunhild Engholm (1917-2009). She shared a common interest in high quality Japanese lacquer objects with her close friend, Bo Gyllensvärd (1916-2004), professor and head of The Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, Stockholm. Thence by descent to the present owner.
