Of square form with straight sides supported on four short feet, decorated with a wide geometric band enclosing floral cartouches in thick famille rose enamels, the domed cover similarly decorated with a central peony surrounded by a geometric and floral band, the base unglazed. Period: Yongzheng (1723-1735) or early Qianlong (1736-1795). Measurements c. 8 x 8 x 4.7 cm. Provenance From the collection of the Swedish Diplomat Torsten Hammarström (1896‑1965). Hammarström was stationed in Nanjing 1947-1950 and in Beijing during the 1950s as Swedish Ambassador. Acquired during his time in China. Thence by descent within the family.
