BERT STERN 1929-2013 Last Sitting - Marilyn Monroe Signerad Bert Stern. Dye Transfer Print, 50 x 50 cm. Bert Stern, the famous American fashion and advertising photographer of the 1960s, was the last photographer granted a sitting by Marilyn Monroe - six weeks before she died. In a three-day session, arranged for Vogue in July of 1962 in the Los Angeles Bel-Air Hotel, Stern took nearly 2700 fashion, portrait and nude studies, of which only a handful were published at the time. Those few photographs have ineradicably shaped our image of Marilyn Monroe and forever linked the photographer's name with hers. During the three days, the master photographer and the famous actress - who was at the same time probably the most gifted photographic model of her time - worked together, producing photographs of an idescribably sensual and human vibrancy, and unmatched climax in the history of erotic, fashion and portrait photography throughout the world. The photograhic prints are one-of-a-kind dye transfers. These were the step before the printing of the edition hence the quality is better than the later editions. The initial signature was not made by Bert Stern's hand, however the larger signature was made by Stern himself during an appearance at The Today Show in 2001.
