Steen Østergaard. Tangochair.dk, frame in mat chrome-plated spring steel, with varnished legs, fitted with loose cushions, upholstered in smooth black Italian semi aniline leather. Designed by MAA Steen Østergaard 1960. Produced at JV Holding. DK: Steen Østergaard is a trained carpenter and woodcarver with a bronze medal 1957. Left the Academy of Fine Arts in 1960 with the highest distinction. Was an officer of the army until 1962. As a trained architect, SØ was employed with Finn Juhl's drawing office 1962-1966, and subsequently became the chief designer and developer at Cado, France & Son and since then with Abstracta 1970-1975. Following this 1978-1981 at Wiltax as a carpet designer, SØ has since worked as an independent designer with offices in England, Germany and France, where he has now had his residence for more than 25 years in the city of Nice. SØ was the first to invent and design a large lounge chair in one piece in injection moulded plastic and he has received a myriad of famous prices in multiple countries. In addition, SØ's designs have been displayed at a multitude of exhibitions and museums. Including the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art, New York). SØ designs are known and treasured far beyond Denmark's borders, and his distinctive furniture designs continually bring in high prices in the well-known auction houses. SØ designed his Lounge-Chair back in 1960 at the age of just 25 years and the chair has since then been much sought after. In many ways a difficult chair to produce and it has now received its relaunch at JV Holding. SØ is still active as an designer. Both with relaunches and with entirely new furniture designs.
