SHUMEI FUJII (1936-2017), JAPANESE ARITA PORCELAIN VASE, LATE 20TH CENTURY.

'Winter landscape at sunrise’. Signed by the artist on the base. Measures 24cm high x 24cm diameter. Weight 3.4kg (with box). Shumei Fujii (b. 1936) is an award-winning potter from Arita. He is famous for his "leaf technique," where he presses real leaves, like magnolia, onto clay to create natural patterns. These patterns look like mountain ranges and tree branches, capturing the local landscape throughout the seasons. Since starting at age 15, his work has been featured in major national exhibitions and has won several top prizes.
