Oil on paper, 101 x 89 cm, including frame 110 x 97 cm. Signed and dated G. Arne 1977. The auction's artwork by Gustav Arne, "Himmel och hav" was painted nearly 50 years ago. The work is Gustav Arne's personal interpretation of August Strindberg's legendary ”Stormlandskap” from 1894, which Strindberg painted during his mentally troubled time in Paris — the so-called inferno crisis. During this period, around 1894, August Strindberg considered himself persecuted and wrote extremely little. The motif in Gustav Arne's painting, a stormy sea under a dark sky, is also related to Strindberg's "Hög sjö" from 1894. With the mentioned paintings, August Strindberg foreshadowed what the modernists would do, 30—40 years later. Has resale rights.
