White-glazed ceramic sculpture designed by Czech sculptor Gertrud Kudielka around 1930 and executed at Lauritz Hjorth on Bornholm, Denmark. "Europa and the Bull" is the Greek myth of how the god Zeus seduces the Phoenician princess Europa by transforming himself into a white bull. He abducts her from the beach in Phoenicia, swims with her on his back to Crete, where she becomes the ancestress of the Cretan royal line and gives her name to the continent of Europe. Stamped with logo and model no. "523". This example is not signed with Gertrud Kudielka's initials, though signed examples are known, including the original example included in the collection of Bornholms Museum. Height: 21 cm.
