Provenance: Winkel & Magnussen auction 327, 1946 no. 33 with the title “Soppende Dreng. Skagen Strand. Maaneskin” (Paddling boy. Skagen Beach. Moonlight). Bruun Rasmussen auction 908, 2022 no. 21. The blue hour or l'heure bleu, was Krøyer's speciality, and is one of the most important artistic elements that has contributed to the artist's and Skagen's world fame. The present painting is a very fine example of Krøyer's capability to paint that very speciel light phenomenon in Skagen.
