A pair of deep armchairs of solid mahogany adorned with silver intermediate pieces and ornaments. Curved legs, armrests mounted with silver intermediate pieces. Upholstered seats with black horsehair upholstery. Danish West Indies, 2nd half of the 19th century (2) H. 85, W. 63, seat height 45 cm. The chairs are modeled after chairs in the governor's residence in the Danish West Indies. Made for and taken home by the seller's great-grandfather Alfred Paludan-Müller (1851-1924), who was a pharmacist on St. Croix. The original chairs can be seen in a drawing by von Scholten in his study reproduced in Klaus Dahl, Det vestindiske möblement p. 89.
